If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."

Where does the time go?

Never did I imagine not wanting to leave home.  A few years ago I looked forward to this day.  How naive I was!

The past year has been a God-send.  So many lessons learned and friendships strengthened.   It's amazing how the Lord can use every circumstance to change our stubborn human hearts.

I left Kenya yesterday...an 'era' finished some say.  It was terribly hard to get on a plane and then have to travel for 24 hours to get somewhere I didn't even want to go.

But, even still, I know that my God is faithful and true -- and that is all my hope is in!

A long summer

After several months of living in a place with no internet access, I've come back to Nairobi.   It's been, as the title says, a long summer.  We've been very occupied with re-adjusting back to life in Gatab.  Many things change when your family moves from the suburbs of Chicago to the bush of Northern Kenya.  Once I arrived to Gatab (after a week in Mombasa, Nairobi and Loiyangalani), the work to get the house back together was kinda intimidating.  Cleaning, laundry, washing dishes, trying to cook without having our "normal" ingredients, reorganizing....
The monday after I arrived I started working at the Gatab Clinic.  Such a blessing to have some real purpose in being at Gatab.  I mostly shadow an American nurse, Janaa, who's here for the summer.  But i also assist with whatever odd jobs the other staff want me to do - mostly cleaning and fetching things for people.   The Lord has been using these experiences to further confirm my desire to study nursing in college next Fall - which I'm thankful for.
In July, we went on camping trip with some friends from Loiyangalani.  Just a one-night trip up Kulal to see Loukusouks - such an incredible place.   It's at the "peak" of Mt. Kulal, and lets you be able to see West towards Lake Turkana and East towards the Chalbi Desert as well as the green valleys and ridges of Mt. Kulal, all centering in around the "crater".   We had planned to stay two-nights but after one night of being cold and slightly wet, as well as smokey and dirty - hot showers, pizza, a movie sounded much more appealing.
We also took a trip out to Ngurunit, for one to pick up fuel that Knowles had hauled up in their lorry, but also so our visitor, Thomas, could see another mission station.  Great trip - barely made it back tho b/c of the rain.  Our area got dumped on the past couple weeks, which is very odd for August.
We've been trying to improve the youth program at our Church - which is going slowly, but I'm enjoying being more involved with that.
I'm currently working on getting my college applications filled out and sent it - which has been somewhat of a nightmere-ish thing as I don't have consistent internet and it seems that every school wants you to fill out applications online.  It's like they think the whole world has access to internet 24-7!!  life will go on.
We're in Nairobi another few days, and will go back up North on Tuesday.  Should be back down in October, so I won't be updating until then.
God Bless - Julie

Only a Day and a half

Well, we finally made it...

one day of school left, followed by a morning of frantic cleaning and packing, and we're off to the airport.  I still have 3 finals left (all tomorrow) which are either going to be awesome or I'm going to do terrible.  But, I'm quizzing myself with flashcards and jamming all this information in my head in hopes that it will be a farely easy day.   So glad this year is over, but i'll miss the friend's I've made.

i probably won't update but every month or two while in kenya - internet is a technology not yet encroached upon Gatab.

till then and whenever i find a computer next - julie

As of today, I have 29 days left in America!  My dad and little brother are already back - they're flying back to Gatab tomorrow.   I'm trying to work on getting excited about going back....but it's tough to with all that we're busy with these days.   I'm not sure when I'll have time to pack my room.

This poem is not relevant at all to what I just said, but I still appreciate it all the same;

Who is the third who walks always beside you?
When I count, there are only you and I together
But when I look ahead up the white road
There is always another walking beside you.  -TS Eliot

This is a random post, but as life's been going these days I'm not minding, as along I actually write something     have to go cause HOMEWORK left to do!!!

Since it's Mother's Day next week, I thought I'd put up my Mom's favorite hymn, though as I think about it really has nothing related to Mother's Day, but still is nonetheless an awesome song.

The Love of God – F.M. Lehman

The Love of God is greater far

Than tongue or pen can ever tell

It goes beyond the highest star

And reaches to the lowest hell

The guilty pair, bowed down with care

God gave His Son to win

His erring child he reconciled

And pardoned from his sin

Could we with ink the ocean fill

And were skies of parchment made

Were every stalk on earth a guill

And every man a scribe by trade

To write the Love of God above

Would drain the oceans dry

Nor could the scroll contain the whole

Though stretched from sky to sky

O love of God, how rich and pure!

How measureless and strong!

It shall forevermore endure                                                                                                                                 The saints’ and angels song.
